I Just Saved A Spider’s Life

I just saved a spider’s life.

After playing with my dog, I went to the toilet to wash my hands. I was about to turn the faucet on when I saw this little spider peacefully sitting on the sink. Concerned about the spider being washed away, I reached for a comb, placed it right next to the spider so that it could hop on and let me transfer him to a safer place.

Of course it didn’t go that easy. Instead of hopping on, he ran away. Naturally the spider don’t have any idea that I was trying to save him with the comb. On contrary perhaps this little spider was thinking: “Oh crap! I better run! This human is trying to kill me with these spikes!” After how many seconds, the spider gave up the chasing game and I finally got him safely out the window.

In a famous Biblical story, perhaps the Israelites felt the same as the spider when they were vigilantly pursued by the Egyptians but then God has led them to the Red Sea without any means of crossing it. In fact, some Israelites complained that they should have been left alone in Egypt for the Lord is just trying to get them killed. Well this is a classic story. In the end, the Lord used Moses to divide the Red Sea in order for His people to cross; and drown the Egyptians.

The spider thought I was trying to kill him, but I am actually saving him. The Israelites thought that the Lord is getting them killed, but He is actually giving them freedom. Perhaps as my actions is too great for the spider to realize, God’s actions are far greater for us humans to understand.

We may never know how the Lord is saving us today. Perhaps the circumstances that we may thought as ‘dangers’ could be God’s way of saving us.

I may not understand You God, but I entrust my whole life to You. Amen.

Love how you find great meaning in the most ordinary story, making us smile and think at the same time. Great perspective. Enjoyed it very much. :)

I grew up knowing to never kill a spider. My father always said they lead you to money and to kill one would cost you money. Then he would name them Herman. Not sure why. =) I still don’t kill spiders or most other bugs and such.I like how you related this to humanity and not knowing what our plan is. It may seem things are not going in the right direction, but patience and faith will often times show us differently.

Ironically, I really hate everything that has more than four feet. This includes cockroaches and spiders. So whenever I see one, I always grab the nearest slipper to splat them right there and there. Plus, watching animal planet gave me a bad impression about spiders as I saw patients rushed to ICU to be treated because of spider bites.

Same as your dad, my dad told me not to kill spiders but not because of money matters. :-) He said that it is actually very helpful to the environment – not sure how. And he explained that not all spiders are venomous, though not sure if there are any venomous species of spiders living here in the Philippines.

But I still hate cockroaches. I’ll crush it whenever I see one. LOL

Thanks Anne for dropping by and sharing your thoughts with us. Really appreciate it. :-)

I don’t kill cockroaches. I run screaming from the room! lol I actually tell my husband I keep him around for two things, to take care of my car and to kill bugs. =)

All spiders are not poisonous, but all spiders do bite. We get these nasty brown recluse spiders here. Don’t look them up because it is really not pretty what they can do to a person. =/

Wow your husband must be very useful! :-D I can manage cockroaches, except for the flying ones though.

I have heard about brown recluse. They’re so small yet so poisonous. Fortunately I heard we don’t have them here. Are you from Australia?
