Top 10 Xbox 360 Games of 2011

Studies shows that being workaholic causes stress; and stress causes various physical illness that can sometimes be serious. Thus Japanese call this “Karoshi” which translates to “Death from Overwork.” Reflecting to an incident on 2006 when 355 Japanese workers fell ill, or simply dropped dead, because of heart attacks and stroke due to the stress of working for Japanese corporations.

Some people might think that being workaholic is as good as being a responsible person who can earn the ticket be part of the 10 Riches Dropouts on Earth. But the truth is workaholics is not far from an obese person with the passion to eat, but irresponsible  enough to not take care of their bodies.

In any case, let’s continue on this topic on a separate post as this is about my Top 10 Xbox Games played so far. If you’re a workaholic and wish to get rid of it, you may want to visit How to Get Rid of Workaholism.

Since I bought my Xbox 360 last February, I only had finished Ten games as to date. The reason was I too became very attached to my work and slowly becoming part of the gang of workaholics. Thankfully my Xbox 360 helped me a lot to manage that and started regular playing last June.

I arranged these titles according to how I enjoyed them. Enjoy!

You Got A Story To Tell

I must admit, my current business is not doing well.

It resulted to:

Delayed issue of salaries.

Failed to fund a couple of checks.

Suppliers withdrawn their products.

Cracked business relationships.

Employees resigning.

and so on..

I think I just hit rock bottom.

It’s sad. It’s tough.

But I should never lose hope.

Should find a way to turn these things around.

I know there’s a way.

I should keep fighting.

It is not the end.

I want to have a happy ending.

An inspiring ending.

Ending it with success!

Because one day I have to tell my story.

To my children.

To my grand children.

Or the public.

How boring and less inspiring it would be if it was pure success from beginning to the end.

On the other hand, it would be just a complete waste if I did not make this story end with success.

Today is the part where the story gets interesting.

Tomorrow is where it will be an Epic!

One day we all are going to tell our story. How will yours go?

My NBA Ultimate All-Star Weekend Experience

Time flies, tomorrow will already be one week since the first game of NBA All-Stars in the new Smart-Araneta Coliseum here in the Philippines. Me and my younger brother did not just had fun watching the NBA game, but the total experience was really something to be remembered. Thanks to all those scalper out there.

What I meant about experience..it was not just the game per se, but the whole process of getting in to the game.

Because of scalpers marking up 300-400% on the tickets, it took us one week of ticket hunting before we finally gave up and accepted to ourselves that we will be watching the NBA vs PBA/Smart-Gilas at home. It was really disappointing to know that I can’t get to see Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant play just because of some *ahem* *gree-dy* *ahem* scalpers. – Well it is just pure business at the end of the day, nothing personal.

Thankfully, on the morning of game day, my younger brother saw a post from Araneta Coliseum’s Facebook account that they are going to sell tickets starting 5pm until 6pm. Bro, asked “Are going? You know that there would be a lot of people lining up.” He knows I hate lining up. I replied, “Errr…”

And we were there by 3pm.

I remembered the quote: “You miss 100% of the shots you did not take.”

As expected, the line is already long as some people were already there as early as 12pm. It was raining hard. The traffic was heavy. It was a leap of faith for all of us.

Even for this matter, I prayed..hard. I told Him that I know He won’t open a chance like this if He doesn’t have any plan for us to watch the game. So we kept the faith.

While we were waiting in line, a lot of trials has happened. We grew hungry, thirsty, wanting to go to the toilet..but all these things we can easily manage. What really troubled us was the question: “Are we getting in?” In short, Doubts. We are already doubting if whether we can go in or not. Should we stay on the line, or should we just go home? Are there enough tickets for us?

We saw people one by one are falling out of line saying, “Tsk, I’m going home. With this line, there’s no chance.” Some called their probing contacts “What? No more tickets?” Then another one fall out of line, and another one, and another one. Our doubts grew stronger making us want to back out as well.

But as our doubts are pulling us away from the game, we again prayed and whispered to ourselves: “Walk by Faith, not by Sight. We are going to watch the game.”

As the ticket booths opened, and line starts to move, we realized that we are just about on the 300th head! And security guards told us that there would be about 1000 tickets for sale. We rejoiced and our confidence shoots up.

But as we got closer to the ticket booth, another challenge occurred. The line got messed up, and security decided to cut our line then connect it at the back – like going back from start. Everyone on our line got mad, we also got furious about it. Securities are already using force to put their patrons at the starting line. Thank God again, in our case, we talked our way in to the ticket booth.

With that happened, from 300th head, I think we are already on the 800th head before we got our tickets. Upper box A was already sold out when we reached the booth, so we got Upper box B tickets!

That was Day 1.

And we watched again on Day 2. This time the line was very organized and guess what, we got Upper box A tickets!

If there would be a Day 3, I’m pretty sure I’ll be there lining up again! For basketball/NBA fans, it’s all worth it.

It is very comforting to know that Lord still guides us even through petty things. To God be the Glory!

Thanks MVP!

It has been a historic weekend for all Filipinos last week, July 23 to 24, 2011. Mr. MVP, Manny V. Pangilinan made the impossible, possible by bringing NBA All-Stars: Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, Derek Fisher, James Harden, JaVale McGee, Tyreke Evans, and Derrick Williams here in the Philippines to play exhibition game with PBA Selections and Smart Gilas.

More than MVP’s gift to Filipinos, I think the main reason for this event was to unveil the “New” Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

When I first learned that NBA all-stars are coming, though I am a huge NBA fan, I really didn’t get that excited because I’m not so much of a Kobe fan. But when I heard Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant are also coming to play, that’s the time I told myself, “Oh boy..I got to get those tickeeets!”

It’s a dream come true for many Filipinos to see how NBA players hoop it live. And I’m sure our Filipino basketball players also dreamt of playing against them.

It has been a fantasy turned into reality. Thanks Mr. MVP!

Just like any other businesses, there are always the “Ups” and the “Downs.” Unfortunately for one of our business, it is currently on the Down side.

Due to financial instability, there are times when salaries and wages of employees comes a bit off-schedule. Even though they do not say anything to me, I can sense their disappointments regarding this matter.

There’s a point in time when everyone is buzzing about resigning from the company due to the delays that happened. One by one I am receiving resignation letters with no indicated reasons at all. Some just left without any advise.

Frankly, it has been very difficult for me knowing that these people are just here for the “Up” side of the company. As I truly believed that everything is well until recently.

I called up a meeting, told everyone that if anyone is just here for the 15th and 30th salary day, anyone who is more concerned about himself rather than the company, anyone who cannot endure the Down times of the company, – perhaps this is not the right company for them, and that I would expect their resignation letters to be tendered 3 days from now.

Surprisingly, no one handed his/her resignation after 3 days. But received two letters after I extended the deadline.

Now, I wish those who left a more fruitful career. For those who stayed, I know that they are the ones who are worth investing for. And I won’t let them down.

Email is one of the most important channel of communication these days. Let us back track how emailing started and the highlights of it.

12 Most Used App On Android and iOS

I use several devices to run my business as well as my personal life. And frankly speaking, devices today will not be as useful without an operating system that can run Apps. Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android are today’s most popular operating systems, and they offer tons of Apps in their marketplace which might overwhelm you if you are new to these OS.

If that is the case, here are my 12 most used Apps that you may want to consider: (In no particular order)

  1. Gmail (Android; Free) and Mail (iOS; Free)Emails are very essential to my business, so I use both Apps so that whichever device I’m carrying, phone or iPad, I can check my emails right away.
  2. iWork for iPad: Pages, Numbers, Keynote (iOS; Paid) – This is where I primarily do all of my Office Works. I can easily bring my iPad anywhere and type my project, review statements, or do presentations. It is so convenient and fun to work with. Investment is really worth it.
  3. Wunderlist (Android, iOS, OSX; Free) – I have already tried several To-Do list, but I settled on this App. One of the things that I like about it is it is available on Android, iOS and Mac OS X; and they sync seamlessly. You can even share your list to other users or via email.
  4. Evernote (Android, iOS, OSX; Free, Upgradable to premium) – A very easy to use Notepad that syncs with Android, iOS, and Mac OS X.
  5. iCal (iOS; Free) – I use this as my main Calendar App. Android has its own calendar, but I’m not much of a fan of it. So far, in my opinion, no other calendar app comes close to iCal.
  6. Chatter App (iOS; Free) – Chatter.com is our company’s Private Networking Site. All of our important coordination/communication are in there. I use this app to conveniently collaborate with my team. Android has its own chatter app, but I think it is still on its beta state.
  7. Dropbox App (iOS, Android; Free) – We use Dropbox.com as our company’s main “cloud” or file sharing service.
  8. JEFIT (Android; Free) – I use this as my Workout Organizer. I can’t go to the gym without this.
  9. A HIIT Timer (Android; Free) – Trying to manually time a HIIT or High-Intensity Interval Training alone may seem impossible, but this App just made it possible. My training is 20 seconds sprint and 40 seconds jog/walk for 10 cycles. Learn more about HIIT.
  10. Entrepreneur Mobile (Android; Free) – I use this App to read Entrepreneur.com if I need to kill time.
  11. Financisto (Android; Free) – My Personal finance manager.
  12. Twitter (Android, iOS; Free) – I’m a big Twitter fan. Follow me: @jedchan.

BONUS:

  1. Maps (Android, iOS; Free) – Used when going to unfamiliar places.
  2. PicLyf Snap (Android; Free) – For easy Photo-Sharing on PicLyf.com.
  3. Foursquare (Android; Free) – Use for checking-in Foursquare.com
  4. Sound Hound (Andriod; Free) – I use this if there is a song that I really like, but do not know the title. All I have to do is to hum on it or record a sample of the song. Though it still cannot recognize 100% of all songs.
  5. Yahoo Messenger App (Android; Free) – A convenient way to chat with my YM friends on Android.

I hope that you enjoyed and find this list useful. If you need help on how to use these Apps, please do not hesitate to contact me.

God Bless!

Draw Your Own Favicon

You may have already met a number of Favicon Generator sites wherein you can create one by uploading an image; or get one from their galleries. So if you wish to design your own favicon, the normal practice is having it done on a drawing application or graphic designing program such as Adobe. Export to image. Then upload to the generator.

Before we continue, some of you may ask what is a Favicon?

Well, favicon is the term called for the small icon in your browser.

Sample of favicon

What is it for? Well, I’m not sure if there are other purpose for favicon aside for the site’s “Brand Awareness.”

Moving on..I have been catching up with my blogging these days. And I’ve done a lot of things lately:

  • Organized files on my StartLogic webhost by moving the WordPress installation to a different folder. - Before it is in the root folder.
  • Tweaked SEO and theme design using my newly bought Drag and Drop Theme: Headway. – Codes make my nose bleed.
  • Sorry in advance, but I also put some “clean” ads to somehow support this blog. Thanks for understanding.
  • Drew my favicon.

What?! Drew your own favicon?!

Yes, apparently there is a site such as Favicon.cc who let’s you draw your own favicon! And here’s my personal icon:  thanks to Headway Themes for introducing it to me. ^^

Jed Chan.com Favicon

Their drawing tools are pretty simple so it won’t take long for you to get used to it. And as you can see, a greed will guide your project.

Favicon.cc also gives you the option to upload your image, or grab from their gallery, and edit it using their drawing tool. Pretty cool huh? ;-) There’s a lot of samples in their library that can serve as an inspiration for your own personal icon.

Happy drawing!
