Page Rank Algorithm

Page Rank Algorithm

My mission for my blog right now is to build traffic. So I dig deep into the cyberspace to research how to effectively build traffic for blogs. I’m hoping to find some tips from professional bloggers, or perhaps some insights on where to start. I’ve read about submitting your site to directories, joining social networks and bookmarking sites, participating in forums, and many others. I’ve already read a lot about them lately but I’m still exploring how to use them effectively. But one article had caught my attention when it mentioned about SEO and Page Rank, frankly speaking this is fairly new to me.

I’m completely lost trying to relate or connect what the article is saying to my own stocked knowledge. Gladly, I found a photo, the one on top, that clearly illustrate how Page Rank works. The way I interpret it Page Rank is calculated by the links you give and receive. The more links you receive, the more it increases your Page Rank – and vice-versa. And the higher your Page Rank the more your site will be effective on Search Engines. I’m quite worried with this because I used to be very generous in giving links. As much as possible I link to other sources so that my readers won’t have a hard time finding what I am writing about. I even refer them to other sites which I think would be helpful for them without any reciprocal links. I’ve also read that Blogroll is not exempted  in hurting your Page Rank, which made we worry even more. Well, it seems like links are very expensive.

As you may observe, I have cleaned some post in my archives of any unneccessary outbound links. Increasing our inbound links is essential. As a matter of fact, our site can also benefit from using tags, related posts, recent posts, and top posts according to one article.

I’m still encountering new terms and new informations regarding Page Rank. Perhaps there’s still a lot of factors that should be considered in calculating our Page Rank, but I think links is their bread and butter.

**I hope we could be fed with more information regarding Page Rank ;)

It’s also my understanding that you can set links as “nofollow,” to save your PR “juice,” as some call it. As far as my Blogroll, I put it on it’s own page, along with my Entracard and community links. This way I can have them as “dofollow” without worrying about page rank, since I’m not interested in the page being indexed by search engines or showing up in their results.

Lea,

Thanks! I’m just quite confused with this “nofollow” thing. Why would we want to put “dofollow” if we can set all tags to “nofollow?” and have a better Page Rank hmm..I’m still confused on how this thing goes. Thanks very much for the info! :)

If a link is set to “nofollow,” that tells the search engines bot not to follow that link from your site. Therefore, if the link is a “dofollow,” the search engine bots will follow that link to the other site. That is in part how PR is determined.

That’s also why SEO optimizations always says to get backlinks for higher PR. The links going from your site to another site is a backlink for the other site. Thus your leaking Page Rank from your site to the sites you linked to.

Entracard dropper links and blogroll links, many like to allow dofollow as a sign of friendship and gratitude. Unfortunately, if they have them on their home page sidebar, they are losing PR.

That is why I set up a separate page for that.

I hope that helps to explain it better. Have a great day.

Wow thanks Lea, we really appreciate how you enlighten us with No-Follow and PR thing. With your comments, I managed to research and somehow understands how this thing works. I even made a post as tribute for your comments.

Cheers!

When you start modifying your site to much only for the benefit of search engine you fail at SEO. Because website are made for your users not to be crawled by search engines. But on the other side you need SERP optimization to firstly drive your targeted user to your site but favoring SEO over useful content its just SEO SPAM.
